Rugs Above AED 10,000: When the Spend Makes Sense

A Rugberry rug above AED 10,000 is a large rug, a rarer fibre or a hand-knotted piece, and the spend makes sense when the rug will sit in the main room of a home you plan to stay in. You are paying for area, fibre and hand time, which buy softness, density, a rug that can be repaired, and years of daily use.

In short

  • At stock sizes, rugs above AED 10,000 are mostly large formats, 9x12 ft (270x360 cm) and up in designs such as the Cadence Wool Rug at AED 11,700, and finer fibres from 8x10 ft (240x300 cm), such as the Corte Wool & Silk Rug at AED 10,000.
  • A hand-knotted rug costs more because each knot is tied by hand around the warp, which makes a dense rug that can be cleaned and rewoven for decades. Rugberry hand knots jute, merino, mohair and alpaca.
  • A rug at this price is a rug to use, not an asset: Rugberry does not promise resale value or appreciation.
  • A 9x12 ft handloom Cashmere Blend Rug is AED 13,200, AED 4,400 more than a 9x12 ft handloom Grain Wool Rug at AED 8,800.

When does a rug above AED 10,000 make sense?

It makes sense when three things are true: the rug is for a room you use every day, you plan to keep it through more than one home, and you want a rug that can be repaired rather than replaced. If any of those is missing, a good hand-tufted rug will serve you better.

A family moving into a villa they own, with a majlis or living room of 14x16 ft or more, is the clearest case. A first rental apartment is not.

Which Rugberry rugs sit above AED 10,000?

Four designs at their stock sizes, each also made to any size to order:

What does the extra money pay for?

It pays for area, fibre and hand time. Cashmere is a rarer fibre than wool, and a large rug takes more yarn and more hand work. On a hand-knotted rug the hand time is greatest: a weaver ties each knot around a pair of warp threads on a loom, row after row, then beats the row down.

A hand-tufted rug of the same area is made far faster with a hand-held tool, then fixed with a backing. The knotted rug has no glued layer at all, so the structure is the rug itself, from face to back. Hand knotting at Rugberry runs from the Savannah Jute Rug to the Rugberry Reserve fibres, merino, mohair and alpaca, each made entirely to your measure.

A hand-knotted rug has no glue in it. The knots are the structure, which is why it can be rewoven.

What does a hand-knotted rug give a home over decades?

It gives three things a tufted rug cannot. The first is density: the pile is packed tight, so furniture dents recover and foot traffic flattens it slowly.

The second is repair. A candle mark, a chewed corner or a worn patch can be rewoven knot by knot, because there is no backing to peel. The third is cleaning: with no glued layer, the rug can be washed fully by a professional cleaner, which matters where fine desert dust settles daily.

Is an AED 14,000 rug an investment?

Treat it as furniture you will use, not as an asset. Rugberry does not promise resale value, and the honest return on the money is years of daily use in one room, then another.

The useful sum is cost per year of use. A rug that serves a family well through several homes costs less per year than two cheaper rugs replaced along the way, but only if it is cared for.

How does it compare with a good wool rug of the same size?

In 9x12 ft (270x360 cm), the handloom Grain Wool Rug is AED 8,800 and the handloom Cashmere Blend Rug is AED 13,200. The AED 4,400 between them buys cashmere, finer and denser underfoot than wool.

For a bedroom or a sitting room where feet are bare and softness is the point, choose the Cashmere Blend. For a dining room or a busy majlis where the rug takes years of guests, choose the Grain, because its low surface suits chairs and traffic and it costs less. Our guide to hand knotted and hand tufted rugs sets out the other trade-off.

How do you care for a rug at this price?

  • Use an underlay. On marble or porcelain tile it stops creep and takes the grinding out of foot traffic.
  • Rotate it. Turn it end to end twice a year so sun from large windows and traffic spread evenly.
  • Vacuum with suction only. Skip the beater bar on a knotted pile.
  • Send it to a professional cleaner, not a home shampoo, when it needs a full wash.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a hand-knotted rug so much more expensive than a hand-tufted one?

Because each knot is tied by hand, one at a time, which takes far longer than tufting the same area. The price reflects that hand time, not a different look.

Will a hand-knotted rug go up in value?

Rugberry makes no promise of resale value or appreciation. Buy a hand-knotted rug for how it wears and how long it can be used, not as an asset.

Can I order a hand-knotted Rugberry rug in a custom size?

Yes. The Savannah Jute Rug lists any size to order, and the Reserve pieces in merino, mohair and alpaca are made entirely to your measure. A custom size is priced on its area.

Is a hand-knotted rug safe with pets?

A dense knotted wool pile copes with paws better than a loose pile, and damage can be rewoven. Clip claws, blot accidents at once and keep a professional cleaner in mind.

Spend where you live every day. The hand-knotted rugs are where the hand time goes furthest.
