Custom Rugs Delivered to Qatar: How It Works from Doha

A good number of the rugs we make each month leave Dubai for Qatar. Homes on The Pearl, villas in Al Waab and West Bay Lagoon, and the new apartments rising in Lusail all order the same way, from a distance, without ever standing on the rug before it arrives. That distance puts people off less than you might expect once they see how the process actually runs. This is how a made to measure rug reaches a Doha home, step by step, and what to decide before you begin.

It starts with a floor plan

Every commission starts with the room. Most clients in Qatar send us a floor plan or a few photographs over WhatsApp or email, with the measurements of the seating area or the room the rug will hold. From there the conversation is the same one we would have across a table: what the room is used for, what sits on the rug, how the light moves through the day. The full journey from first sketch to finished piece is described in our note on the bespoke design process, and it works identically whether the client is in Dubai or Doha.

Size is usually the first real decision. Qatari living rooms and majlis arrangements tend to run generous, and low seating changes the arithmetic, since the rug should carry the full seating line rather than float in the middle of it. Our rug sizing guide covers the majlis alongside dining rooms and bedrooms, and for anything unusual we simply size the rug to the room, to the centimetre.

Choosing materials from a distance

Colour on a screen is a starting point, not a commitment. For clients in Qatar we courier physical samples, wool, wool and silk, and silk swatches in the shortlisted colours, so the decision is made with the material in hand under the room's own light. New Zealand wool suits most family rooms for its depth of colour and the way it wears. A wool and silk blend brings a shifting, light-catching surface that suits formal spaces, and hand-knotted pieces reward rooms where the rug is meant to be looked at as much as walked on.

Making, and how long it takes

Once the drawing and the colours are approved, the rug is made by hand to the confirmed dimensions. Hand-tufted and handwoven pieces are ready in about 30 days, and hand-knotted work takes about 60, because every knot is tied individually. We share progress along the way, so a client in Doha sees the rug on the loom before it is sheared and finished.

Delivery to Doha, The Pearl and Lusail

Finished rugs travel from Dubai to anywhere in Qatar in seven to ten days, rolled, wrapped and insured. Import duties and taxes are included in the price, so there is nothing to pay on delivery and no paperwork to chase. The rug arrives ready to unroll, and we stay on hand afterwards for placement questions or a first professional clean down the line.

Seeing the work in person

There is more on sizes, materials and current designs for Qatari homes on our luxury rugs Qatar page. And since Doha and Dubai sit about an hour's flight apart, some clients prefer to combine a trip: our Dubai sales office at 1804 Al Ameri Tower, Barsha Heights is open Monday to Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and an hour with the materials in hand answers most questions at once. Either way, the rug that arrives is the same, made by hand, sized to your room, and finished to the drawing you approved.
