Rugberry

The Art of Making

Every Rugberry rug begins with exceptional raw materials and meticulous craftsmanship. From the yarn we source to the texture we create, each element is chosen to ensure luxury underfoot. Here, we introduce the fibres, techniques, and construction methods that bring our bespoke rugs to life.

Our fibres

We source the world's finest natural fibres — each selected for its unique character, durability, and hand feel. The material you choose defines the personality of your rug.

New Zealand Wool

New Zealand Wool

Premium long-staple wool from sheep raised in New Zealand's pristine landscapes. Naturally resilient, soil-resistant, and rich in colour saturation. The ideal foundation for high-traffic luxury residential and hospitality spaces.

Jute

Jute

A strong, sustainable plant fibre with a naturally warm, earthy texture. Jute brings organic character and understated warmth to rugs well-suited to layering, casual living spaces, and grounding contemporary interiors.

Lincoln

Lincoln

From the Lincoln Longwool sheep, this fibre is characterised by its exceptional length, lustrous sheen, and robust durability. A heritage wool with a distinctive texture, ideal for rugs that demand both presence and longevity.

Merino Wool

Merino Wool

Ultra-fine fibre prized for exceptional softness and drape. The superior hand feel makes Merino a natural choice for bedrooms, private suites, and formal living spaces where comfort is paramount.

Silk

Silk

Pure silk with a distinctive lustre and refined hand feel. Prism-like fibres reflect light beautifully, enhancing colour depth. Positioned as the premium tier ideal for statement pieces in formal living, dining, and showcase spaces.

Mohair

Mohair

Spun from the fleece of the Angora goat, mohair blends the softness of wool with the lustre of silk. The result is a plush, radiant finish that brings quiet elegance to solid and textured rugs alike.

Alpaca

Alpaca

Native to the Andes, alpaca produces a fleece of sumptuous softness and gentle warmth. Lighter and stronger than sheep's wool, it lends a cloud-like texture to rugs — naturally hypoallergenic and exceptionally durable.

Cashmere

Cashmere

Sourced from Himalayan goats and hand-spun into fine yarns, cashmere is prized for its unparalleled softness, quiet strength, and feather-light feel. The most luxurious fibre in our collection reserved for the most discerning commissions.

Llama

Llama

A rare, luxurious fibre from the South American highlands. Llama wool is naturally soft, lightweight, and lanolin-free, making it hypoallergenic with a distinctive drape and subtle sheen that sets it apart from other wools.

Cut pile

Cut pile is created by shearing yarn loops, leaving upright fibre ends that form a plush, refined surface. Each of our five cut pile techniques brings a distinct character to the finished rug.

Ombré Cut

Ombré

A graduated tonal shift across the cut pile surface creates subtle depth and movement. The effect is achieved through carefully dyed yarn transitions that evolve across the rug.

Carving Cut

Carving

Sculpted relief patterns are hand-carved into the cut pile, adding tactile dimension and shadow play. A technique that transforms a flat surface into an architectural element.

High-Low Cut

High-Low

Multi-level cut pile creates dimensional depth through contrasting pile heights. The interplay of levels produces a three-dimensional surface that shifts with light and perspective.

Mélange Cut

Mélange

Two-tone yarn blends create a heathered, organic effect in cut pile. The subtle colour variation lends warmth and visual texture that evolves as you move through the space.

Gabbeh Cut

Gabbeh

Inspired by the traditional Gabbeh technique, yarn-dyed colour variations produce a rich, artisanal character in cut pile. Each piece carries the gentle irregularity of hand-crafted work.

Loop pile

Loop pile retains the yarn in its looped form, creating textured, resilient surfaces with organic character. Our five loop pile techniques range from fine and structured to bold and dimensional.

Mélange Loop Loop

Mélange Loop

The same two-tone blending technique applied to loop pile, producing a textured heathered surface with added depth from the loop construction. Durable and visually rich.

Overtuft Scattered Loop

Overtuft Scattered

Scattered overtuft accents sit atop a loop base, creating an organic, almost painterly pattern. The irregular placement gives each rug a unique, handcrafted character.

Micro Loop Loop

Micro Loop

Fine, dense loop pile with an exceptionally smooth surface. The tightest construction in our range, Micro Loop delivers a refined, almost flat hand feel with quiet structural integrity.

Tip Shear Loop

Tip Shear

Loop pile with sheared tips creates a subtle tonal contrast between the matte loop base and the slightly lustrous sheared surface. A technique that adds quiet sophistication.

Straight Line Loop

Straight Line

Linear parallel loop rows create a structured, directional texture with clean geometric rhythm. The most architectural of our loop techniques — precise, minimal, and composed.

How we make

The construction method determines how fibres are bound together. Shaping the rug's density, durability, and character. We offer three distinct methods, each suited to different design ambitions.

Handloom

Handloom

Crafted by skilled artisans using a shuttle on traditional looms, handlooming weaves fibres with speed and precision. The result is subtly textured, tonal rugs with a refined, consistent surface, ideal for contemporary interiors and large-format pieces.

Hand-Knotted

Hand-Knotted

A centuries-old technique in which thousands of individual yarns are knotted by hand around each warp thread. The smaller knot size enables intricate detail, rich texture, and exceptional durability. Our most labour-intensive construction, and the most enduring.

Hand-Tufted

Hand-Tufted

A handheld tufting tool inserts yarn into the canvas with speed and control, enabling bold patterns, varied pile heights, and rich surface textures. Hand-tufting offers design flexibility with shorter lead times, suited to dynamic, expressive rugs.
