The fibre
Mohair, the diamond fibre
Mohair is shorn from the Angora goat, a fleece so lustrous the trade has long called it the diamond fibre. The lustre is structural. Each strand is smooth and nearly scale-free, so light travels along it instead of scattering, and the surface of the rug appears to shift as you move through the room. It is also one of the most resilient natural fibres we weave. Mohair stretches and returns rather than breaking, resists felting, takes dye deeply and holds its colour for decades. A mohair rug is light underfoot, warm in winter, cool in summer, and it wears in rather than out. In Mohair Sillage the fibre is hand-knotted, giving a closer, denser hand that is firmer underfoot while keeping the fibre's light. Made entirely to your measure in any of the ten Reserve colours.
